Take Back the Night Marchers

Events

SAFE Project is proud to be a part of several annual events that work to end violence including:

Take Back the Night: “Take Back” what women have lost due to the threat of sexual assault. This rally and march raises awareness about the world of constant vigilance that women live in– having our keys out as we walk to our car and not walking alone at night. The Women’s Action Network and other campus groups coordinate the event, which is held in April.

Garden Party: Support local non-profits that at a fundraiser held by local community members Darci and Byra Kite. This gathering in their garden raises money for SAFE Project, the Downtown Clinic, and Laramie Reproductive Health. It is held in July.

Candlelight Vigil: Come light a candle to remember those who have lost their lives to domestic violence in Albany County. Support those who are working to end violence in their own lives and those who have lost loved ones. Traditionally it is hosted by SAFE Project and held at the Alice Hardie Stevens Center in October.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: Men (and women) are invited to try on a pair of high-heels and literally walk a mile. This fun experience is also a great way to learn about gender roles and violence. Come participate by raising pledges or support a walker. UW STOP Violence hosts this event in November.

Other past events include the Chocolate Fiesta and the Peacemaking Churches Initiative.

Please pay attention to other special events held during our Awareness  Months:

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (and Child Abuse Awareness)

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
