Title IX
“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.”
Title IX is a federal law that prohibits sex discrimination in educational institutions and programs that receive funding from the federal government.
Title IX prohibits sexual harassment, violence, and other sexual misconduct, and the law's regulations guide how colleges and universities must respond.
Clery Act
The Clery Act requires colleges and universities to report campus crime data, support victims of violence, and to publicly outline their campus safety policies and procedures.
Victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking have specific rights, options, and resources guaranteed to them by the Clery Act. These rights include providing options for relocation/change of housing, transportation, and academic course assignment, plus access to counseling services, legal services, and law enforcement notification.
The Clery Act requires prompt, fair, and impartial disciplinary proceedings that are to be conducted by trained parties.
